11/28/2008iReports

These are a new set of analyses incorporated into the Expert Reports. For those of you familiar with the old SPAM (System Performance Analyses using Measure), these are equivalent to SPAMnX. However iReports do not require MS Excel, and offer the same detail analyses, along with what-if options, in a new graphical interface. iReports shows as an extra tab on the Expert Reports dialogue. You may select it specifically, or along with other reports & charts. Each iReport analyses is displayed separately.

10/15/2008Expand Throughput

New analyses are now available to monitor the throughput of Expand links between your systems. Per line, you may review loads for level 2 and level 4 protocols and data for the duration of the collected report. Simply ensure that your collection includes the NETLINE Entity. This analyses are then calculated and made available automatically. This new feature is available under the Analysis menu, titled: Expand Throughput.

8/7/2008Expert Reports

Over 30 new reports and graphs are now available. Named Expert reports these are specific analyses which cover a variety of system resources. For those of you familiar with the old SPAM (System Performance Analyses using Measure), these are equivalent to the same analyses. Analyses may be viewed online, downloaded for later review, or emailed to self and colleagues. Access “Expert Reports” of the Analysis menu to start. A matrix shows all available data. Select any subset of continuous data of the same interval, click on “Next”, and follow the prompts.

3/13/2008Consolidated View

Most current days’ walkthrough, Alerts, and quick access to detail analyses are now available upon initial logon. If you have more than one Server covered by Remote Analyst, your default system is displayed first. Use the drop down list above the graph to access analyses for other Servers. An icon on the right left top of the graph gives you quick access to weekly walkthrough graph of the displayed Server.

1/8/2008New “Memory Leak” detection feature & more…

A new feature now enables you to easily identify processes which increasingly allocate memory. These processes, often due to programming errors, will have an adverse effect on system performance. Remote Analyst can now be used to easily identify these processes, thereby preventing system overloads and possible performance degradation. To access this feature, select “Memory Leak” from the “Analysis” Menu.

Welcome screen now shows a one day “Walkthrough” of your primary system, as well as navigational control to display previous days. Point the cursor on any CPU data point on the graph, and click to see a list of busiest processes running at that time on the selected CPU. A summary of Alert information, as well as access to drill down information is also now available on the main screen.

11/16/2007 Load Balancing and CPU Failure Analysis added

This release introduces two exciting new features: Load Balancing and CPU Failure Analysis. Load Balancing allows users to do process move simulations wherein they can pick an interval, move around processes across CPUs, and check out the before and after scenarios. Also included is an automatic 'Recommend' feature wherein Remote Analyst makes process move recommendations so as to optimally balance your system. The accompanying charts include the per-CPU high and low activity down to the minute, as well as the per-CPU memory consumption.

CPU Failure Analysis can be accessed from the Walkthrough screen and allows users to simulate CPU failure scenarios. They can see which processes were impacted and how the failed CPU's load was distributed across the remaining CPUs.

In addition, users can now also schedule Storage (Allocation and Capacity) reports to be sent out on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly basis.

6/5/2007 Alerts Database and improved Walkthrough

A new alert definition and notification system is now available. The alerts are stored in a trend database that users can query long after the collection has expired. Users can assign severity levels to alerts and set notification preferences to receive alert information along with the reports that they receive via email as soon as new data is loaded.

The Walkthrough screen has been enhanced to show both, the 'Per CPU' as well as the 'Hi-Lo' charts at the same time for easy comparison. In addition, a new process search capability has been tied to the walkthrough wherein users can search the top 50 processes per CPU, per interval. This will allow users to quickly nail down the processes contributing to the CPU activity.

3/26/2007 New Walkthrough and enhanced “What If”

A new “Walkthrough” feature is now available and may be accessed from the “View” Menu. You may view CPU busy overlaid with either Disk IO or TMF transaction rates. This may be viewed in a detail per CPU or Hi-Lo formats.

“What If” feature is also enhanced. It now includes before and after analysis on TMF and Disk IO rates. Both can be displayed over a detail CPU busy or Hi-Lo graph. This is on top of analysis for increase in TMF or Disk IO rates and/or Processor upgrade. “What If” can be accessed from the “View” Menu.

2/8/2007 What-If Analysis added to Remote Analyst

Remote Analyst users can now ascertain the impact a system upgrade and/or a transaction rate increase will have on CPU utilization. What-If Analysis allows the user to select the target processor type from a list of pre-populated types and create a chart showing the ‘before’ and ‘after’ scenarios. This can be very useful if the system needs to be upgraded and if you want to find the right processor type to upgrade to. You can also see what impact a transaction rate increase will have on the system’s CPU utilization and find the best processor type that can accommodate this change. The website now features a new and improved menu bar for easier navigation. Remote Analyst also introduces Version 1.7 of the Collector, the installation of which is now fully automated.

11/8/2006 Automated analysis and tuning recommendation by Remote Analyst

You can now see a full analysis along with tuning recommendations directly on their NonStop Servers. These analyses can be scheduled to run at any time to cover a normal business period. You can see how your systems behave vs. acceptable industry standards for optimum use. An extra component also offers recommendations on changes you can adopt to improve their system throughput. This information can be viewed directly via a web interface off their NonStop, as well as be emailed to colleagues as a packaged analysis piece. To learn more about this feature, download and install the latest Collector, and then go to the “RA Tuner” tab on the Collectors’ web based interface.

10/26/2006Remote Analyst now offers Workload management analysis

A new feature of Remote Analyst enables you to review your workload throughout your business day. This shows any imbalance in relationship between CPU usage and transaction rate. It also highlights days/hours when a system may reach or exceed its acceptable use rate during normal business hours or offline batch processing. To start using these features, create a new Trend report for TMF Entity and select CPU / Trans as a Counter. Select your choice of Time Scope, and then view your report using the “Delivery – Now” method.

6/12/2006Storage trends and analysis introduced in Remote Analyst

Remote Analyst now offers analysis of data storage devices on hp NonStop Servers. These new analysis and reports can be reviewed on-line, and/or be automatically received via email. They include:
  • Alerts on Disks that are over 80% or 90% of capacity. Reports also indicate when (number of days left and exact date), each disk is expected to reach the next threshold or reach its capacity.
  • Complete allocation analysis, which identifies file owners and locations.
  • Select a time period of inclusion for data within a report (e.g. no. of hours, days, weekdays, months, or quarters).
